Great Train Run Footrace Route Details

The route is made up of 8 stages varying in length between 2.9km (1.8m) and 6.5km (4.0m)

The total distance is about 40km (about 25 miles).

Section 1: From Independence Square to Salters (STATION #1, about 6.5km/4.0miles from start)

Distance: about 6.5km (about 4.0 miles)

Terrain: slightly uphill, mostly road, some cart road at the end, you will need a head lamp or other light for this stage.

You have the option to stay on the road from ABC highway to Salters (STATION #1)

Training Run: Independence Square to Salters, Sunday, TBA

Section 2: From Salters to Windsor/HW5 (STATION #2, about 11.7km/7.2miles from start)

Distance: about 5.2km (about 3.2 miles)

Terrain: flat, rocky, grassy, cart road, you will need a head lamp or other light for this stage.

Training Run: Salters to Sunbury, from Glebe Market, Sunday, TBA

Section 3: From Windsor/HW5 to Sunbury (STATION #3 about 16.4km/10.1miles from start)

Distance: about 4.7km (about 2.9 miles)

Terrain: flat, cart road, I would recommend a head lamp or other light for this stage.

Training Run: Salters to Sunbury, from Glebe Market, Sunday, TBA

Section 4: From Sunbury House to Three Houses (STATION #4, about 22.0km/13.7miles from start)

Distance: about 5.7km (about 3.5 miles)

Terrain: flat, cart road.

Sunrise will be at 6:20am, in 2010 and 2011 we got to Sunbury at 6:00am/6:05am

Training Run: Bushy Park to Consett Bay, from Skeete’s Bay, Sunday, TBA

Section 5: From Three Houses to Bath Park (STATION #5, about 27.4km/17.0miles from start)

Distance: about 5.4km (about 3.4 miles)

Terrain: initially flat, then downhill, cart road, grass, rocky until Conset Bay

Then about 500m along the rocks from Consett Bay to Bath Beach

There are showers at Bath Park to wash out sand and salt water before the next stage.

Training Run: Bushy Park to Consett Bay, from Skeete’s Bay, Sunday, TBA

Section 6: From Bath Park to Martin's Bay (STATION #6, about 30.3km/18.8miles form start)

Distance: about 2.9km (about 1.8 miles)

Terrain: flat, narrow, rocky, trail, the trail is not difficult as long as it is dry.

Training Run: Consett Bay to Cattlewash, from Cattlewash, Sunday, TBA

Section 7: From Martin's Bay to Cattlewash (STATION #7, about 35.2km/21.8miles from start)

Distance: about 4.8km (about 3.0 miles)

Terrain: flat, narrow, rocky trail, the trail is not difficult as long as it is dry, but it's a longer stretch and at the end you cross Joe's River and come along the beach.

Training Run: Consett Bay to Cattlewash, from Cattlewash, Sunday, TBA

Section 8: From Cattlewash to Belleplaine (STATION #8 – FINISH, about 40.4km/25.0miles from start)

Distance: about 5.2km (about 3.2 miles)

Terrain: asphalt road, it will be hot and there is the option to have an additional stop at Barclay's Park

Persons participating in the Great Train Run should first ensure that they are physically fit to undertake strenuous exercise.

Conditions underfoot along the route may be hazardous and due care should be taken at all times.
