Detailed Course Description (under construction)
We start on the Cattlewash side of Barclay's Park on the East Coast, using the same location that the annual Hill Challenge has been using for the last 10 years. TheĀ course follows the Hill Challenge route, first climbing up to Cambridge, then a second climb to Less Beholden and leading up to Chalky Mount.
Turn right off the road before the former site of Chalky Mount School, left at the bottom, across the ravine and up a short hill towards Coggins Hill Road. Turn right into the cart road, left at the Y before the small farm, gengle downhill until the sharp left turn that takes you down a short steep hill before you cross the riverbed before Haggatts. Cross the river, turn right, then turn by the Casuarina tree and head towards the road. This is a slight difference from the 2024 and 2025 Hill Challenege routes. Turn right onto the road and then left into the road leading you into Haggatts Old Factory Yard.
In side the yard (about 4km from the start), make a left, next right up two ladders, right to "Round the Mountain" and then left up the remainder of Haggatts Ladders. Stay on Haggatts Ridge and rejoin the Hill Challenge Route (at the top of Barking Dogs). Stay on Haggatts Ridge and the Hill Challenge route, turning right onto White Hill Road and continuing your climb to Mt. All. Do not go up Mudsteps and stay on the road, continuing up the hill, to and then past FU Gap (the top of Rasta Patch). Make a left onto the newly built bypass, and then another left into the forrest leading up a very steep trail towards Mt. Hillaby.
At Mt. Hillaby (about 8km from the start, 340m above sea level), have a rest and take some pictures before you start with the descend to the West Coast. Make sure you take the extra steps up to the plaque making the highest point of Barbados.
The trail down from from Mt. Hillaby to the Apes Hill/Highclere Reservoir is a very technical downhill section with lots of roots. Make your around the reservoir in a clock-wise direction and out through the gate. Turn left onto the road and follow it to Dunscombe where you make a right through a new subdivision. Once you are on the old quarry access road, make the fist left and follow it all the way into Dunscombe Quarry.
Cross the boulder wall and new dam into the gully and emerge about 500m later into Highway 2A. Cross the highway carefully and head north until the Portvale Factory driveway where you turn left. Before the factory entrance make a left, past Marenco into Blowers and follow the arrows/ribbons/flags. There is another gully to cross before you get to the Trents/Greenwich/Lancaster Road. Head down that road into Holetown, turn right into Trents Tenantry Road, first left, then right again and follow the arrows/ribbons/flags through a track before crossing Highway 1 in front of Folkestone Park.
